2014 KIA K3(Cerato, Forte) Coup turbo tuning

After 2014 KIA K3 Coup Turbo released in the end of 2013, it is likely to be the hot icon to Korean young generation. K3 coup has nice looking body with 200 horse power turbo engine.

For better sound, the owner of the car in this post has decided to add blow off valve under the hood and Brake kit for better performance. PartsKor visited the tuning garage to see how they work.

Before we watch the tuning work, I like to mention that how much this car (K3) is fun. Not only K3's (Cerato, Forte) compact body, fast transmission and 200 horse power engine are the things you need to pay attention. The most important aspect of this car is it's light weight body. See this video

Comparison with

- 2013 Mustang V6 3.7 (Left lane) *spec: 309 hp
- 2005 Saab 2.0 turbo *Spec (Mid lane) : Chip tune 250 hp
- 2014 KIA K3 Coup 1.6 turbo (right lane) *Spec:204 hp

This is rolling test from 80km/h~ 200km. At the beginning of the tunnel, KIA K3 took up the running leaving Saab behind..but after 160km/h Saab is getting push K3 back..KIA K3 made a good fight of it considering the it's small engine (1.6 liter).
However, K3 can be faster than this with ECU mapping. (It will be released soon).

Back to the tuning garage, this white pearl, just only 10,000 km mileage car visited the tuning garage.

This is the one the owner want to add to the intake line..

Just for information, this tuning garage has developed Turbo installing kit for KIA K3 sedan (non turbo car, NA engine) which can achieve 200 horse power at front wheel. Price? only about 3000 USD. I strongly believe this payment is worthy for the owner of K3 sedan.

1.6 liter Gamma engine : Peak power 140 hp. 17kg.m exactly same with Hyundai Elantra power train. 6 speed auto transmission.

1) 0~100km/h takes 11 sec.

2) Top speed is limited at 210km/h

4) Fuel efficiency test

* Reset trip computer before the test
* No Eco driving. Kept the speed range 80~120km/h
* Distance : 44km
* Driving time : 31 mins.
* Test result : 18.3km/L

5) Parking assistance test

1. Find the place for park between 2 cars

2. Push the parking assistance button

3.Switch the direction of parking

4.Now parking assistance computer is searching and calculating the space

5. Ready for parking

6. Done!

KIA K3 (Forte/ Cerato) needs a virtues as a family car rather than a performance car. So with this level of performance K3 showed to us, it's hard to feel regret with KIA K3 while driving. Driving stability at high speed was quite good.

However, when pass a bumpy road at high speed, K3 behaved a little unstable. But it's not a serious problem because this phenomenon occurs with every compact sedans.

I'd like to praise the K3 suspension which distribute the impact coming from rear of the car so smoothly even though torsion beam type of suspension is applied to K3.

Overall, K3 is designed to provide a smooth and gentle ride, but it does not feel like lying on a waterbed. When you drive some where with your family, K3 will allow your family to enjoy a comfortable journey.

The interior style of KIA has been dramatically changed for the past 2~3 years. Further, K3 has the better interior compare to K5 (Optima) or K7 (Cadenza).

Especially, the steering wheel adapted to K3 is the best among the KIA cars which has been reviewed so far.

Cruise-control is equipped, and the button on the top-left to adjust the sensitivity of steering supports 3 stage of comfort, normal and sport mode. On sports mode, you may sense the steering wheel become heavier.

Shift paddle is mounted on the steering wheel. Fine paddle reaction to the sporty driving.

Nice visibility super vision cluster dash panel with luxurious lighting is applied. The monitor which placed in the center of cluster, serves navigation function and variety driving information.

Kind guidance for engine start

The button on the left of steering wheel allows you to adjust the brightness of lighting. Eco button will help you save a gas a little. Body control device is equipped as a standard.

Dash board covered with carbon film gives a impression that K3 is for younger. Better than woodgrain.

Side view windows will help you drive safely.

UVO incorporates a variety of functions. Especially in conjunction with smartphone App, UVO allows you to control the car with your mobile phone. Navigation interworks with your smart phone so that you can open the door or trace your car with the smart phone.

It is also possible to guide you through the simple car diagnostics, to KIA service center if the car has any trouble. Of course, you can be connected directly to UVO center in emergency.
