KIA Optima turbo 420HP 50kg.m turbine upgrade car

KIA Optima turbo 420HP 50kg.m turbine upgrade car

Hi it's still very cold here in Korea. My previous post : "Magic of ECU tune" was very popular among KIA & Hyundai fans. Here today, I am going to show you turbine-up KIA Optima turbo, it has 420 HP and 50kg.m at the front wheel.

Amazingly, this car is faster than stock BMW E92 M3 and Benz C63 AMG at the rolling test ( 60km/h ~ 260km/h acceleration test). No wonder that modified car is faster than stock luxury sports sedan, and some people may say comparison tuned car to stock car is meaningless.

But I still think these KIA optima and Hyundai Sonata (they have same engine) has something very meaningful. The cost you have to pay for additional 200 hp power( totally 420 horse power) is just about 4500~ 5000 USD ( depend on the options), if you have KIA optima turbo and live in Korea.

Tuner says, "5000usd is not that expensive price if you consider the power increase. Think about the tuning cost of BMW turbo car ( BMW Z4 35i, BMW 335i) You should pay more than 10000 usd to get additional 100 horse power. Optima and Sonata has very nice layout under the hood and it has enough rooms for additional parts. So that we can reduce the total cost for turbine upgrade." I agreed what he said.

Power graph

* Max power : 426.56 horse power

* Max torque : 50.14 kg.m

Want to see how much this car fast?
1 lane : BMW 1M. chip tuned. sports exhaust 400HP at rear wheel
3 lane : KIA Optima turbine upgrade. 420 HP at front wheel

After long term test for 3-4 months, we have found that Hundai 6 speed auto mission ( made by Hyundai powertech) has nice durability enough to endure 50 torque. There has been no mission slip or jerking.

Magic of ECU tune (Hyundai Sonata Turbo & KIA Optima Turbo)

Magic of ECU mapping (Hyundai Sonata Turbo & KIA Optima Turbo)

It's a magic.
Just after 10 minuets of installation and pay for the work, and you will be astonished with the change of your Hyundai or KIA.

Generally speaking, Hyundai & KIA represent typical type of family sedan here in Korea. No more value than just boring family cars..that has been the reputation of these 2 car makers for about the past 10 years.

Recently, some of the owners of Hyundai Sonata and Optima started comparing their family sedan to BMW sports sedans even to BMW M3, Mercedes Benz C63 AMG. Hahaha..many people laugh about them.

Comparing Hyundai family sedan to BMW sports sedan, is it really ridiculous? or meaningless? Yes, there's still big performance gab between them.

But, what if the ecu in Sonata is remapped by tuner? What will happen? Here is the answer for the question.

1.Sonata acceleration
(304 horse power-real wheel power. 40kg.m : only with ECU mapping)

Fast? It may difficult to realize how much it quicken after ECU mapping by this video.
Let's compare with stock car.

2.Sonata ECU tune VS Nissan G37 vs BMW E46 M3

1 lane : G37 (white)
2 lane : Sonata (ECU tune) - Black car
3 lane : BMW M3 (ECU tune + Sports Exhaust)

3.For better performance
 K5 (KIA Optima) with,
 - Turbo upgrade
 - ECU mapped
 - Intercooler
 - Sports Exhaust
 - 420 horse power 50kg.m (torque) at the front wheels
 *Acceleration video

If I say that this KIA Optima is faster than BMW E92 M3 and Mercedes C63 AMG, would you believe it? Amazingly, there's no reinforcement to auto transmission.

KIA Optima (380HP) vs BMW 1M(400HP tuned)
CL63 AMG (camera car)

1 lane : KIA Optima (turbine upgrade. 380 hp)
3 lane : BMW 1 M (Chip tune. 400 hp)

ECU mapping technology of Hyundai Sonata & KIA Optima is still in the early stage. I think , over time, new version of ECU tune data will be released soon with a slightly higher power and high stability.

Driving in Korea #3. Seoul to Busan

This post was written by Shark sushi, a car reviewer.

Driving in Korea #3. Seoul to Busan

Happy new year PartsKor friends :D

Today, we are going to have a long trip from Seoul to Busan. Busan is really beautiful place. Gwang-Ahn big bridge is one of the most beautiful place in Busan, it can be seen streaking across the sky on nights. I love watching it.

South Korea is, actually, small country. It takes only 5~6 hours from Seoul to Busan. Less than 450km seperate Busan from Seoul, but Busan's atmosphere is much different in many ways.

We are taking GyeoungBu expressway for today's motor tour. GyeongBu expressway is the fastest way from Seoul to Busan, it goes all the way across South Korea.

Volkswagen Scirocco R was picked for fun driving. She looks very sexy..

At the night, we went to the gas station and fill up her with gas. Are you ready to run, lady?

She must be full :)  2064 won (2 USD) per one liter of gas here in Korea.

Trip computer says that possible driving distance is 380km. But we have to go 430km..-.-

Traffic jam..at the beginning of the tour. At the out skirts of Seoul, this is the beginning of GyeongBu expressway.

The traffic is getting light from this point! ~~

While we kept 100~110km/h, Gas consumption gauge showed 10.5km/liter.

Seoul tollgate.

Ok, go go ~

A curved tunnel, straight tunnel, long tunnel and short tunnel. There are so many tunnel on our tour course.

Rainbow tunnel ^^  I like it

Shall I raise the RPM to Red zone? Woops, look at the gas consumption!
2.3km/liter? Hey, you are not a Lamborghini nor Audi R8, please don't do this~

After 250km of driving, we have spent half of the gas.

Many people ask me " why do you always drive such a long distance (Seoul to Busan) to test a car?"

The reason that I insist the Seoul-Busan course is that I can experience the various driving environment at once. Raining, snowing, cold road and curved road. I can face to so many different roads during only 5~6 hours.

So if somebody ask me
"How about the running performance on the rainy road?"
"What you feel after a long driving?"
"Do you think it is worth for bucks?"

                          I don't need to hesitate to answer. : )

Now we are at the entrance of Busan. I am so tired T.T

Woops! Gas tank is almost empty! Let me have a short sleep in the car.

The next day morning,

Busan city

Scirocco seems to matches Busan very well I think.

You see? Beautiful buildings over Scirocco.

Take a look around here. I love the cafes behind you. ^^
(Click on the picture, then you can walk around here..)

At night, after parked Scirocco in front of Centum city apartment.

At Haewoon Dae, I really watching that bridge on night.

At haewoon Dae. Centum city

a few more photos of Busan taken by a semi-pro photographer

I like this small city. The streets are full of people. The fish market is bustling with activity. The people here are more optimistic than those living in Seoul. I love this place.

Jagalchi fish market

Now, it's time to get back to Seoul. This photo was taken on the Gwan-Ahn bridge. this is the last scene before living Busan.

On the way back home, we wanted to speed up a little more. 200km/h...210..220..240..

Wow!  240..250..255..260....?

Scirocco was very stable at high speed despite its front wheel drive. Understeer tends to occur at high speed, but I can say it is controllable.

Raining again..

Gas tank is almost empty again..

highway service area.

Fueling again.

We are almost there..

Seoul tollgate.

Special thanks to Scirocco~~ You served me a very comfortable and safe ride.

Thanks for having a long travel with me. Travelling to different place always makes my heart flutter.  I hope to travel another place, before the end of this winter. Thanks..
